How to revoke a token approval
Guide · 13 September 2026
Revoking an approval sets a token's allowance for a spender back to zero. After the transaction confirms, that contract can no longer move that token from your wallet — even if it is later exploited.
Step by step
- Find the approval. In Shingan, run
/approvalsto see risky allowances with an id. You can also inspect them on a block explorer. - Build the revoke. Shingan constructs the call
approve(spender, 0)and gives you a deep link or a page. - Sign it yourself. Your wallet opens and asks you to confirm. You pay only the network fee.
- Wait for confirmation. Once mined, the allowance is zero. Shingan updates your record.
What it costs
Just gas. There is no Shingan fee for revoking, and no funds move — the transaction changes a permission, not a balance.
Good habits
- Revoke approvals to apps you no longer use.
- Revoke anything flagged as risky, and anything you don't recognise.
- Check again after using a new dapp for the first time.
Never share your seed phrase
No legitimate tool — including Shingan — needs your seed phrase or private key to help you revoke. Anyone who asks for them is stealing from you. Shingan is read-only and cannot sign anything on your behalf.
