Is my wallet safe? A 5-minute self-check

Updated 14 September 2026 · Shingan

You can’t make a wallet perfectly safe, but you can answer five questions that cover most real-world losses.

1. Do you have unlimited approvals you don’t recognise?

Check your allowances on each chain. Any unlimited approval to a contract you don’t use is a liability. Revoke it.

2. Is your seed phrase anywhere digital?

Photos, notes, cloud drives, password managers and chat messages are all compromise vectors. It belongs on paper or metal, offline.

3. Do you use one wallet for everything?

A single wallet holding savings and used for every new dapp is a single point of failure. Split a cold wallet from a hot one.

4. Would you notice a drain as it happened?

Most people only discover a theft when they next open their wallet — by which time funds are gone. Continuous monitoring is the difference between noticing and recovering.

5. Do you sign things you don’t understand?

If you can’t explain what a signature does, don’t sign it. Wallet drainers rely on speed and confusion.
